Rob the Seal, the mascot of the nautically themed Waterfront Rotary club, has joined forces with Octavia the wise and exploratious Ostrich.
For those that haven't met Octavia before, allow us to make the introductions. Octavia created quite a stir here in Cape Town South Africa around the time that the country hosted the world's footballing nations.
Octavia the Ostrich was the star of the children's edutainment book Where in the World- a unique guide to countries participating in the 2010 tournament. Combining sport and education the books are a novel way to "edutain" both children and parents alike.
Aimed for readers at primary school level the adventures of "exploratious"Octavia is full of fascinating facts, trivia and colourful designs that keep the childrens attention from beginning to end.
Octavia's new adventure revolves around cricket and takes her and her friends to India- where they attend the CCC- Children's Cricket Conference in an adventure entitled Octavia goes out 'in' Asia
Rotary International have identified basic education and literacy as an integral focus of their Future Vision for the Rotary foundation. Rotary Club Waterfront has been actively involved in providing libraries and training librarians in the poorer communites of Cape Town.
Rotary Waterfront have endorsed the publications. The authors and publishers have pledged to donate one printed book for each ebook sold and have made the book available at a concessionary rate for distribution by RWC to under-privileged schools in South Africa.
We are liaising with Rotary Clubs around the world, especially the cricketing nations to encourage them to join Octavia (and Rob the Seal ) in bringing her special brand of edutainment to the children who need it most.
